She received her Master’s Degree in Art Therapy Counseling in 2010 from Marylhurst University in Marylhurst, OR (just outside of Portland). After graduate school, Allison spent a number of years working in the Portland Metro area with youth ages 4-18 and their families, supporting them around intensive mental health challenges and healing after traumatic experiences. Allison also has experience working with adults facing significant life changes, or healing from previous childhood trauma. She enjoys supporting clients across the lifespan develop their strengths and connect to community in their personal journey of healing.
For those unfamiliar with art therapy, Art Therapists are mental health clinicians who use the visual arts and creative process with clients during assessment and/or treatment. Art Therapists must complete graduate level education and postgraduate, supervised experience to become a Registered Art Therapist (ATR). Many art therapists also complete other mental health credentials such as Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). Allison’s degree program at Marylhurst University provided training in both art therapy practices and more “traditional” counseling techniques, and clients are free to decide whether art therapy makes sense to incorporate into treatment with her.
